- 9 AM, I take the subway, my I-pod on my ears, listening to cocoon, a french band I discovered the day before on Deezer. My eyes are almost closed, the night was short, as the one before : I wanted to follow “live” the American elections, and as the french television didn’t talk about it, I could follow it on lemonde.fr till I got the result around 5 AM…

- 10 AM, I’m listening to the teacher, sitting at the back of the class to get the wireless connection of the 107 room. Thanks to the Internet, I can finish to read the news (I didn’t buy any newspaper this morning) on liberation.fr.

- 1PM, it’s lunch time and we didn’t finish a class presentation we have to do for the afternoon. To do it quickly, we download some videos on youtube to image what we want to explain. As I have 20 minutes left, I check my facebook page to see if some friend left me a message for tonight.

- 6PM, class is over and I have to go back home and prepare for rugby. Right before I take the car, I watch a video from a friend of mine on dailymotion.

- 10PM, Rugby is over, I take my car and listen to the soccer game at the radio, it’s the first half time and Lyon is winning against Steau Bucarest. It only takes 15minutes to be home and I want to follow the second half time ! I run in my room, log on lequipe.fr and read, minute after minute, a brief sum up of the game. As I follow the game, I can chat with friends on msn to prepare a week-end in vendée.

- 00AM, game is over and I’m exhausted, but I find the courage to check on goodsite if I can watch the last episode of Prison Break. Good news, I can watch it, bad news, I won’t be sleeping till 2 in the morning…

First step is to find a job, and Internet appeared to be the best way to find it. First because it allows you to send/keep all the information about you, an E-CVfor instance, a small presentation or even a blog. Second because you can find plenty of jobs, by searching on websites, chatting with people, contacting organisations. Internet is now the first tool to get a job or an internship. Third because the company will probably ask you in the first place to send an email with your CV and a letter. Imagine if you don’t have any way to contact them but calling them and sending them a letter ! I’m not saying that you won’t get a job, but it will certainly be harder.

As you got your job, and you work in a company, no need to tell you that you’ll be ALL THE TIME on the web. I worked for TF1 Channel, for my first internship ans I realized why I couldn’t afford to stay even a day without being connected. We could say that there’s two way to use it.

- With the “out world”, all the people I was working with, and with who I had to correspond in different manners. Calling someone is a good way to get in contact, but sending an email is quick, precise and doesn’t bother the other one if he’s busy. As I was working with journalists I discovered that the first step of our relations was built on the emails we were sending to each other. As I began to know them good, and send them lots of emails, the phone calls were not so hard to make because they knew who I was. Finally, our websites (some public, some dedicated to the journalists) helped everyone to get a clear information on our programs without calling us. It appeared to be really important also because I had to make lots of research on precise subjects. The use of the Internet accelerated the research and I could get access to many information just by surfing on different websites. I gathered a big amount of information in a short period of time.

- Inside the company, because many of the people I was working with were not in my office. As TF1 is the same company than Eurosport, I was working a lot with them during the European soccer tournament 2008. But it took a long time to meet them and discuss about precise subjects. Connected all the time, we could debate it from our offices. Moreover, TF1 Intern communication system is one of the best : some people I was working with created many intern websites to keep always posted on the meetings to come, the last ones, the programs to be broadcasted, or even what the others were working on. Those many tools have been a real help during my internship, and as I was leaving the company, they were creating some other tools to develop a more and more accurate communication system inside the company.

It is not even possible to work without the web nowadays for the reasons I’ve told you about, but for many others….

 As the music industry didn’t believe it would have such an impact, unknown artist have started to ‘perform’ on Youtube, Myspace or Dailymotion. We all think about the same artist : Lorie !

Yes, you may not like what she does but she made it through the web as many producers told her she would never be a star. And, trust me, if Lorie can do it, YOU can do it. So if you have any musical gift, sing pretty well and you’re not shy at all, begin right now to record your first album ! You may be a big star and fight with the other artist against people downloading illegally your songs (the same who discovered you on the web!)

But let’s face it, you may not be such a good singer and the Cyber crowd scares you a little bit. But still ! You know that you have that “French Flair” I told you about. Here is an other tip for you :

Become a music producer, by sponsoring an artist on My Major Company ! It’s easy, it doesn’t need to be famous, and you’re a real part of an artist discovery. Internet users are basically invited to support unknown artist they like by giving some money on the website. If the artist of your choice gathers more than 70 000$, he gets to record his album for real and to be launched on the music market. Your benefit is double : you get to help an artist recording an album and a video clip, but you and the other co-producers  share 30% of the sales.

Isn’t it great ??? This website is working very good because it lets the consumer decide. If they like an artist, you’re pretty sure that his album will rock !

Can a 15 years old child, using Internet all the time, really imagine that, a long time ago, you had to pay to connect 20 hours a month ? I don’t think I’m a geek, not even a frequent user. However, I need it all the time and I couldn’t imagine living my life and doing all what I have to do without using the web.

As for me, I have to admit that Internet plays a big role in the relations I can have with the world and people in general : checking and answering my emails, chatting with friends, creating pages that are supposed to reflect who I am, reading the news, watching movies… And as I live with this addiction, I find it a bit scary, thinking that many of your actions during the day are linked with Internet, thinking that some people don’t even need the real world to live because they have everything they want on the Internet.

Internet is an all new opportunity though, I realized that it opened my curiosity on the world and offered me to know/search/create whatever you want. During my e-culture class, I’ve learned many times how it could be dangerous to “missuse” the Internet. But the truth is that we actually need it, and it’s a part of how we live : it may be dangerous but if you learn how to use it and to avoid the actual dangers, no need for you to panic.

Not using the Internet is running backward, and the risk is actually to cut of the real world. Of course,  we need to pay attention to the dangers, of course we need to stop what could make “sink” our world, but we need to understand why it is such a precious tool.

And in 10 years from now, we’ll talk about today as an ancient era, because many things will have evolved again !!

One of the most famous technique is to send fake emails, pretending you’re from a company and get through this some money or information that will help you to create some sort of “New identity”. Thanks to your credit card information, or your social security number, they pretend to be you on the web and do whatever they want ! Buy things, do illegal stuff, or get papers they can’t get, destroy your reputation !

As faking identity cards or social security cards was tough, and cost a lot of money to get it, this new form of crime is simple, cheap, and more and more people can do it ! Moreover, how it appears to be way harder to track someone on the web than finding someone who sells fake IDs.

The reasons are not even the good ones : real identity theft could be used sometimes to help an immigrant, or someone who’s in trouble, as cyber identity theft is most of the time a way to steal money.

That’s why you need to be careful when you pay something through the web ! Be sure the website is secure and famous, or you could get a phone call from bank asking why you spent 5000$ in Spain last week (that happened to a mother’s friend!)

Two rules to respect though :

- don’t be too much of a gambler, you’d loose all your money : this system is not as different as gambling in a casino !

- Be sure to keep posted on the sports results, always ! If you have a perfect knowledge in a sport, that will help you to win more.

Some people don’t bet a lot but win big amounts of money ! How do they do ? Here is an example :

you choose a tournament, a tennis tournament for instance, and you decide to bet on all the games during the tournament, but you only pay 5$. This is what we call a contract : you need to be right on all the games if you want to win the big prize. If only one of them is wrong, you’ll be winning nothing !! It’s a bit cruel I admit (Imagine you’re only wrong about the final !), but you can make a lot of money and only risk to loose 5$ !

We’re not talking about one of those preventive sites that try to make you stop to drink, by telling you that it is wrong and bad for your health, because everybody knows it. The solution could be found by creating a real social network, gathering different actors on the subject : people who already suffered from alcohol and drugs and who can talk about it as witnesses, people who use it and need to know a bit more about the ‘long term’ effects, and testimonies from families destroyed by that.

The message then wouldn’t be “Don’t drink” or “Don’t use drugs”, but more ‘Learn how to drink” and “learn what you can use and what you can’t”. The main problem, I think is that more and more websites give expert advices, from doctors and politicians that aren’t really connected to the “real” society. Sure, they give you good advice but a young alcoholic or a drug user doesn’t want to hear that what he does is stupid, illegal, or that they are slowly dying, they need to understand how they can act to reverse the situation.

Let’s take an example, imagine that I’m young (I’m actually young), I drink to much at every party I go and I take the habit to drive back home at the end of the night. That’s not such a big deal for me, I think I can deal with it. The commercials I’ll watch on television won’t make me change because I think I’m capable of driving even when I drunk a little bit (or even a little bit more). On the contrary, if I spend one hour discussing on this social network with a mother who lost his child in a car accident because of a drunk guy, and that she explains to me how it destroyed her family, how she lost what she loved the most, I may understand how my acts can ruin somebody else’s life.

The idea would be to create a link between the “already victim” and the “victim to come”, for both of them to keep in touch, and to create a strong relation, in order to heal : the mother could therefore find reasons for the death of his child and the young “alcoholic” could find a real reason to reduce his drinking parties or even to regulate himself. Same for drugs, a simple image, or a video won’t prevent you to try some drugs and become an addict. Talk to a guy who destroy his whole life, just because he once decided that it wasn’t such a big deal to try it.

Here is an example of how the website could be organised : you just need to create a login, but you have the choice to leave personal information or not, the only thing is that you need to specify if you need to be advised or if you want to advise. The website could then generate a direct link between a user (or many) and a victim of the same product. Example : I smoke weed, and I’m starting to be afraid of the effects it could have, the website connects with a guy who suffered from this problem and can talk with you, because, of course, he lived the same addiction. He won’t just give you the regular advices or restrictions that you can hear on television by some politics who never ever smoked weed or anything else. The idea is also that you don’t especially need to be a member, you can also come and talk with people on forums, and keep your identity private, because it can be hard sometimes to reveal who you are and talk about such difficult things.

One last ideas could be to create a link with people from the entire world for the drug users from wealthy countries to understand how the use of it is sometimes more than a game, it may be a necessity to face a really hard life. For example, connecting people from France or USA with Brazilian boys and girls who use it because they live on the streets and that they have no other choice.

The main idea of this concept would be to tell the users : “We’re not here to judge, we’re not here to tell you what to do, we’re just here to help you if you need it and to give you an other option, not as an expert, but as a person who suffered from the same problem”

I can’t say if this idea could work, but it may help more people than simply telling than by a commercial that what they do is wrong, and that they are a plague for the society.

Just to make you dream a little bit, let me tell you the story of the creator of the One Million Dollar Page. It’s amazing how a very simple idea can make you earn that much money… Alex Tew, who lived in the Wiltshire in England, needed money to pay his studies and decided to create a web page, divided in one million pixels. He got the idea to sell each pixel for a dollar to the Internet users, as an advertising space.

As he thought advertisers would buy all the space, he realised that people like you and me also wanted to buy some space to put personnalized messages. A guy even bought space to ask his girlfriend to marry him ! it had such a success that Alex sold the entire page within a few weeks ! And guess what ? He created a second page !

Alex is now a millionaire and has a large amount of money to pay his studies. Does that make you want to cry ? You know what you have to do now !

More seriously, I won’t talk a lot about this, because I clearly don’t approve what they do, but let’s face it, it’s money ! It’s called Pay per Post and it works on a simple exchange : they have advertisers who will pay you to write about their products on your blog. So basically, you make publicity for them and they pay you. That’s what we call viral advertising ! Even when you think it’s not, it is !

I don’ t like it, I won’t do it, but still, you can try and tell me if that’s good paid. Moreover, I don’t like the way they present things, saying on the main page : “get paid to blog about the things you love”… Yeah Sure!

They even talk about a community, as if those people were doing that just for fun !

Anyway I would rather be eaten by a shark than using this !
